APO ON THE WALL by Bj Patino
1.        There’s this man’s photo on the wall
2.        Of my father’s office at home, you
3.        Know, where father brings his work,
4.        Where he doesn’t look strange
5.        Still wearing his green uniform
6.        And colored breast plates, where,
7.        To prove that he works hard, he
8.        Also brought a photo of his boss
9.        Whom he calls Apo, so Apo could
10.    You know, hang around on the wall
11.    Behind him and look over his shoulders
12.    To make sure he’s snappy and all.
13.    Father snapped at me once, caught me
14.    Sneaking around his office at home
15.    Looking at the stuff on his wall- handguns,
16.    Plaques, a sword, medals a rifle-
17.    Told me that was no place for a boy
18.    Only men, when he didn’t really
19.    Have to tell me because, you know,
20.    That photo of Apo on the wall was already
21.    Looking at me around,
22.    His eyes following me like he was
23.    That scary Jesus in the hallway, saying

24.     I know, I know what you’re doing.

  1. Students were challenged but it seems that they don't want change and innovation thru the use of new media.

    1. I like the poem because it gives me an idea of what Martial Law or Marcos government looks like.

    2. It made me feel sad and thankful because I did not experience the past that is considered as one of the darkest time our country has experienced which was during the Martial law.

3.The message I got from it was following strict rules and policies of my parents and as a student, I need to follow the rules and regulations of the school and I admit most of the time I neglected to follow those rules but I will do my best to change myself because I know it will be beneficial to me.

    4. I appreciate the poem because it serves as a reminder to us about our country's past.

Giselle Soriano The poem entitled Apo on the Wall by Bj Patino was a good poem for it symbolizes loyalty of every soldier. That was about the time of Ferdinand Marcos and it was during Martial Law. The Apo that the narrator was referring to was Ferdinand Marcos. It was all about how influential Marcos was. A young boy which was the narrator has a soldier father, which bring home a photo of his boss whom he called Apo and hangs it on the wall. It made me feel what the time of Marcos was like and his Martial Law did to the people. It made me feel like people during that time experienced difficult situations. There is a line that says " I know, I know what you're doing", meaning that the persona's father must keep on doing his job because that photo on the wall was Apo who was like looking at the persona's father guiding him. The message I got from it was being brave like the soldier or the father in attaining whatever your goals are. Also being a child who has the curiosity about what is happening to the environment. What I have read was the reason why I am indeed grateful of where I am today compared to the past. It is not that I dont appreciate the past but because I know what it is like back then that none of us would want to experience.

Arvie Manzano I like the poem because of its figurative and inspiring message. It makes me feel great and proud with regards on the side of the son for he has a father who trains him to be a truly man someday, somehow. His father indeed not a showy-type. Being disciplinarian is his way of relaying his love to his son. My perspective has changed. Before, all I can see is its bad effects and why Apo becomes to be that way--dictatorian, likewise to the father. But if we try to assess its good/positive impact, it is definitely just for the sake everything into the son.

The poem is really great. I like it because of its nature. It was written imaginatively, creatively and has a connection with a real situation. It talked about a relationship of master to a father and a father to his son. It touched my heart and made me feel glad for I remember my father on the poem, his love for me and for teaching me how to be brave but he and the father on the poem are different in each other, in their ways. What learnings I got from it are; being committed for the father shows commitment to his job, being brave and disciplined because on the part of the son, he was taught by his father to be like that. This poem has something to do with the martial law during the regime of the former President Ferdinand Marcos, a bit connected with the martial law in Marawi City, Mindanao.

It talks about the past happenings during Marcos time.Dictatorship is present then,it was shown to how the father discipline his son.I like the poem because of its hidden and meaningful messages.Being committed and obedient to your job even just a picture is looking and observing you.On the side of the child, being a follower and listener will make you a true man someday.Upon reading the poem, my perspective about martial law was changed. I also appreciated the good effects of it.This poem inspires and motivates me to be committed to everything l do and to be a disciplined child not only to my parents but also to my fellows.

*l like the poem because it gives us learning not just how to be a good father, master, Apo and a disciplinarian one but also thought us to be ready at all times because if we grow up, we can't deny that more responsibilities will come so we must be responsible enough to accept and embrace those.
*As I read the poem, I felt annoyed within myself because I know that I'm not that kind of person who is disciplined enough on those things I am taking. That I am not always ready for those thing that I must accept and embrace. I also felt envy on the part of the child because his father has care to his child by always telling him to be a good man and a better one.
*The message that I got on the poem was simply being a good nan and being obedient on those things we do either someone is watching us or not. All must start from ourselves.
*I appreciate the poem because it reminds me the happenings during that time in Martial law.

I like this poem because it gives me knowledge and how to be accountable on what happened during Martial law. Upon reading this I feel proud to my father no matter what happened he love me and I appreciate it. The message I got from it is that you must follow your parents because this is for your own goodness. My appreciation to this poem is that I need to be responsible.

I like this poem because it is interesting,it caught my attention. nachachalenge ako sa nga figurative words na ginamit ng author. It makes me feel inspired because pinapakita dto kung gano kadetermine Ang ama na pangaralan Ang kanyang anak for his own sake. For the message, walang ibang nais Ang ama sa anak kundi kundi para sa kanyang ikabubuti.I appreciate this poem because it relates to my life, as a good daughter to my father,i will obey his command.

    * The message that I've got from the poem is not just being obedient and responsible but also a child with discipline.
*I appreciate the poem because it turns back the time when Martial Law happened and people got scared because of the chaos aroses.
