ETYMOLOGY, Root Words from Greek and Latin

Etymology of a word as the origin of that Word: The word etymology is derived from the Greek word ἐτυμολογία, etymologia, itself from ἔτυμον, etymon, meaning "true sense," and the suffix -logia, denoting "the study of."
